Indian Summer

The cold snap menopauses into one hot flash.
Inch-long gray lizards spring from gray rocks
turn electric green on the grass
perform the season's last pushups.

Perched atop autumnal garden midget pumpkins
the blood-orange chameleon slivers appear
miniature dinosaurs astride gigantic mounds of ginger
before disappearing for the winter.
