Just a note to say we will soon be watering our
houseplants again – what’s left of them, anyway. Which
really means that we will be buying new ones, to kill later
when we begin publication of Volume 2, Issue 1.
We are continually surprised and excited by the
dimension and variety of our submissions, and we thank
you all.
If you’ve been paying attention, you know that over the
course of the last year, we have been in the process of
earning MFAs while publishing The Sylvan Echo.
Assembling this, our fourth issue, in between writing
manuscripts for graduation, killing houseplants, full-time
jobs, trips to the hospital, and having a life (really not-so-
much), has led to a lot of teeth-grinding, sweating,
Chinese take-out-eating (translate to weight gain),
keyboard-tapping, and cussing (lots of this).
And now we’re MFAs and the journal is a year old (Yes,
it’s true)! With a substantial readership – approximately
100,000 land at the site, per issue, and spend an
average of four minutes on a page – we are the little
journal that could! We plan, goddess and houseplants
willing, to continue being the little journal that can and
does amazing things...until one day we are no longer
little and the New Yorker is eclipsed by our light.
May we never be too tired to dream.
